Workshops
The ICCBSS committee solicits proposals for workshops. A workshop is a forum of researchers and practitioners focusing discussion on a narrow topic related to the conference theme. The workshop organizers should be leaders in the field and should encourage a wide range of attendee ideas. A workshop can focus on research and applications not yet mature enough for conference publication. Organizers should design the workshop approach and duration to meet their stated objectives, with a maximum duration of a full day session. Summaries of the workshops will be included in the conference proceedings.
The following information is provided to help you in workshop submission and conference preparation.
- Initial abstract submission - intent to submit
- Initial abstracts should not exceed 200 words in length, should summarize the topic of your workshop and must be in English. Submitted initial abstracts will not be evaluated and will be used by the Program Chairs to gauge the type and coverage of conference topics.
- Submitted initial abstracts can be in either ASCII text or MS Word.
- Initial abstracts for workshops should be submitted electronically via the ICCBSS conference paper submission Website at witanweb.ca/iccbss2007/ by 30 June 2006. NOTE: Should you miss this deadline, please contact the program chairs via email at iccbss-2007@sei.cmu.edu and submit your workshop proposal as instructed in 'Proposal preparation.'
- Proposal preparation
- Proposals for workshops consist of extended summaries (expected length is two pages) describing the topic of the workshop, its organization and duration, relevance, expected target attendees, and an outline of the call for participation that would be sent to potential attendees.
- Submitted proposals must be written in English using either MS Word or pdf format. We recommend following the conference MS Word document template.
- Proposals for workshops must be submitted via the ICCBSS conference paper submission Website at witanweb.ca/iccbss2007/ by 14 July 2006.
- Proposal acceptance
- Proposals will be evaluated based on relevance, currency of the topic, and organization of the workshop as described in the extended summary.
- Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by e-mail and will be provided with the reviewer comments by 15 September 2006.
- Final submission
- Authors of accepted workshops are requested to make modifications to the proposals submitted according to the reviewer comments.
- Authors of accepted workshops will be sent an author kit (including camera ready instructions and copyright form). Individual authors will submit their camera-ready workshop extended summaries and copyright forms no later than 3 November 2006.
- Presentation material submission
- The final workshop should be organized to fit within the duration specified in your accepted proposal—not to exceed a maximum of seven hours, including all breaks and workshop sessions.
- Workshop organizers will be responsible for creating all materials required for their workshops. If position papers are a part of your workshop format, the workshop organizers are responsible for generating a call for participation, collecting and adjudicating papers, notification of acceptance or rejection, and collecting the materials for handouts.
- Presentation slides should be created using MS PowerPoint 98 or later and use standard fonts.
- Presentations should not include proprietary materials that cannot be distributed to the general public.
- Final presentation material must be submitted via the ICCBSS conference paper submission Website at witanweb.ca/iccbss2007/ by 15 December 2006 to be reproduced as handouts (with a maximum of 50 single-sided pages) and be preloaded for presentation at the conference. No special binding of handouts will be provided by the conference.
- The workshop lead will present the results during the conference.
NOTE: It is our intent to post presentations and conference summaries on the ICCBSS Web site. Submission of final workshop summaries and presentation slides will be considered as permission to the organizers to print and distribute them at the conference, enclose them in the Conference CD, and post the materials on the conference Web site.
