Technical Council on Software Engineering (TCSE)

In this fifth ICCBSS, we look forward to exploring the expanded potential for commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software as we “push the COTS envelope” even further. COTS products hold great promise in the current environment, where new technologies and domains have exploded in growth, along with the complexity and number of systems. We see a wider range of Web services, network-centric operations, and an increasing application of free and open source software (FOSS). We’ll focus on a wider scope of challenges and approaches—technological and organizational—for constructing, acquiring, deploying, and sustaining software intensive systems that depend on commercial products.

ICCBSS History

Successful integration of packaged or commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software in support of key business, operational, or mission related processes is essential to creating today’s systems. Few organizations can afford to duplicate the software available from the commercial and open source marketplace.

The International Conference on COTS-Based Software Systems (ICCBSS) is the first conference series to focus on exchanging ideas about current best practices and promising research directions in creating, fielding, and maintaining systems that incorporate COTS software products. It provides a forum in which researchers and practitioners from industry, government, and universities can gather to exchange ideas and results.
