Managed Technology Adoption Risk: A Way to Realize Better Return on Investment from COTS Adoption |

Two companies can install the same COTS software package, yet one company enjoys more success, and a better return, than the other does. Needless to say, many factors could be involved in this common scenario. Yet, chances are, one of the factors is that the successful company actively managed the non-technical aspects of the adoption of the COTS software, instead of just selecting it and installing it. This paper provides insight into the Software Engineering Institute approach for actively managing adoption risks as part of overall software technology selection and implementation. This approach was used was used to guide demonstration projects which were targeted at small manufacturing companies adopting advanced COTS engineering software solutions and, therefore, has applicability to small and medium enterprises in general. | ||||||||||||||||
